The Art of Frank Wright

Frank Wright’s Paris

His home in the early 1960s, Paris was Frank Wright’s second city. After a hiatus of nearly 20 years, he returned annually (1982-2010) to rejuvenate, visit his favorite artworks, and come home with ideas for new paintings. Wright relished the French love of art, literature, and culture and their deep respect for artists. His creativity and imagination were sparked by the city’s amalgam of past and present architecture from Roman ruins to I. M. Pei’s pyramidal addition to the Louvre. His favorite viewpoint was Paris from above. In the 1960s, and again in the 1990s, Wright explored this concept in his series “Under Paris Skies”. In this series, he explored the city’s life below, balanced by broad expanses of dramatic sky above.
