The Art of Frank Wright

French Landscapes

Frank Wright sustained a deep interest in the French landscape over many decades. In the early 60s he lived in Paris while on a fellowship studying printmaking and traveled through France always with a sketchbook in hand. After a hiatus of almost 20 years, in 1982, Wright began making almost annual trips to France and discovered the newly-opened home-museum of French impressionist artist Claude Monet. Wright created 11 landscapes, many large in scale and scope, of Monet’s gardens inspired by his visits first in the 1980s and returning to the subject in the 2000s.
