A sixth-generation Washintoninan, Wright drew inspiration from the ongoing flow of everyday life in the capital city rather than the transient political scene. Wright made a significant contribution to our understanding of DC’s past with more than 80 paintings, almost half of his oeuvre, dedicated to his city. Over the years, he painted both historical scenes from DC’s past as well as his favorite locales from the natural splendor of the Potomac River, to leisure along the National Mall, to his studio life and the urban environs near F and 9th Street, NW.
