Wright worked in series and themes, painting the same subject from multiple perspectives, seasons, or centuries. He frequented his favorite locales with ritual-like regularity — Sundays at Montrose Park (and later Fairhaven on the Chesapeake Bay), Paris on spring break from teaching, and Maine in summer.
